THE PLAY
In 1930, Filipino immigrant Sinsero toils in the California fields patiently waiting for the weekends to let himself dance the nights away at the local dance hall. In 2026, his great-grandson, Sero, dances drunk under the heavy beats of techno in a shoddy bar in Arkansas, avoiding his preparation for his GED exams. Sinsero reads public anti-immigrant signs, openly threatening his and his countrymen’s lives. Sero finds a job in federal law enforcement that will bring the destruction of the once-thriving immigrant community in his town. In this one-person play, we explore the experiences of two men of the Rivera family during times of great political upheaval, anti-immigration sentiment, and economic depression in United States.
